Certificate in International Development

Program details

Format

To obtain the UBC Certificate in International Development, participants will undertake two required courses, and three elective courses. Our intention is to deliver a practical, hands-on program, in order to provide a broad overview of issues in international development.

The program is delivered 100% online and features experiential learning methods such as group discussions, skills practice, case studies, readings, practical written assignments and online discussion/learning among the participants and course facilitators.

Courses in the Certificate in International Development feature peer learning and are discussion-based. Students respond to assigned questions by posting to an online discussion board. Everyone has access to everyone else’s postings. Students’ responses to each other and to the instructor are the basis of weekly discussions.

Everyone’s participation in these discussions affects the learning of everyone else. Posting on time and engaging with other people’s work every week is key to one’s success and to the richness of the course for others. Students require access to the Internet course site for the duration of the course. If you will not be able to check in online for more than three consecutive days during the course, please consider postponing your registration until a time when you can be entirely present.

The 100% online part-time format allows participants to work at their own pace and to choose which courses they wish to take. Participants are expected to complete the program within three years. Under exceptional circumstances, extensions may be granted.

Program Fees

The fee is $895 per course. The fee for registrations received before the earlybird deadline, generally three weeks before the course begins, is $845. The fee for the full certificate program is $3,975 if you register for all five courses at the same time. If you choose this option, please register by phone at 604-827-4203. Please see each course listing (under 'Courses and Registration') for full price details. All fees are listed in Canadian funds. Prices are subject to change.

For more information, call 604-827-4203 or email us.
